Org. wide Design Maturity Assessment

Overview

The objective of this application assessment was to identify areas of our products that are best suited for additional short-term investment to increase product usability, value and adoption

Outcome of Assessment

  • A baseline of the current status and an objective data-driven analysis of the quality of the product, to provide a baseline on which to improve and measure in future

  • Outline existing problem areas, and identify opportunities to improve the design

  • Provide initial recommendations on how to improve on identified problem areas

  • Understand what priorities lie ahead and what is needed to realize the full potential

of product design and adoption

  • Evaluation of the process maturity, as well as the size and makeup of the product

Scope Identification

Nomination by team leads based on the following considerations:

  • User experience requiring improvement

  • Performance of application

  • Number of users

  • Complexity of execution a change request

  • Complexity of the application

E.g. Only case management or also alert handling etc.

Research Approach:

Steps employed to form the baseline for the assessment

  1. User Feedback Surveys

Utilized an industry-standard questionnaire (PSSUQ), sent to an average of 30 users, to get a baseline score to get an idea of the current high-level user satisfaction with the product today.

  1. PO Discovery Interview

We conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the product, analyzing its purpose, status, process, technology, and background, including an Agile self-assessment.

3. Product Usability Review

Assessing the usability of an existing product using rule-of-thumb heuristics.
We used a checklist/scorecard method to review a product from a UX perspective, by UX professionals, providing a usability score. e.

Heuristic evaluations help to identify around 30-40% of usability issues, while usability testing identifies around 85% of usability issues.

Outcome

Benchmarking Score

The project outcome was a score out of 10 of the products in primarily three categories, i.e., general usability, user satisfaction, and process delivery maturity for individual products.

Key Issues

For each category, a detailed list of issues pertaining to all three categories was handed over to the product team, and a summarised version of key issues was also provided.

Enhancement Roadmap

Along with key issues for each area, a roadmap and product strategy were provided to address issues in the short term and long term.

Certain parts of the toolkit were also provided to the product teams to scale the initiative at a wider level and keep measuring the progress in the future.
